- The F-117 definitely has one. On the day before this year's
- airshow here in London, they were expecting an F-117 so they
- spent quite some time setting up a portable arrestor system for
- it at the end of the runway (couldn't figure out what they were
- doing :-). I guess they're pretty sensitive about damaging these
- babies. Anyway, to test it, they got one of our own CF-188s
- (F-18 to all you non-Canadians :-) to power up to full reheat and
- was quickly halted by the gear. Fortunately, they didn't need
- it, since the F-117 landed without incident. As soon as it had
- taxied off the runway, they dismantled the arrestor gear.
-
- They also set it up for it's departure the following Monday
- (didn't test it though).
-
- So tell me, is this common procedure? They've never set up this
- stuff before here, and in all the airshows I've been to here and
- in Europe, this was the first time I saw this. Needless to say,
- I feel fortunate to see this stuff in action (albeit only a
- ground test).
