  41. I think another reason that this phenomenon occurs is that the American
  42. car mags wrote about the GTi models for years before America got the GTI.
  43. In VW enthusiast's minds, the GTi had finally arrived! Also, Audi marketed
  44. a Fox GTi over here for a while, though I don't think that is the reason 
  45. people type the current GTI as "GTi".  -Greg
