It's sorta common sense, but no body mentioned holding the revs down until
the engine is fully warm (of course, common sense is not always right). When its cold, the internal engine tolerances are going to be somewhat greater, the oil won't be flowing as well, etc. Add to this the fact (?) that bearing loads are rpm dependent, and it makes sense to take it easy until warm. Personally, I limit the revs on my Audi to about 3 grand until the temp guage is half way to it's normal operating position, and to 4000 until its all the way.
