  34. Reading from the shop manual, there are two switches - one to tell the computer
  35. that the throttle is at full (or close to it) and one to tell the computer it's
  36. at idle (no pressure on the pedal).  If what I'm hearing from you is correct,
  37. the second switch (called the idle switch in the manual) was broken.  Is this
  38. correct?

  40. I'm having the same problem on my '89 Jetta, and plan to check it out this 
  41. weekend.  Hopfully it's just the switch.  Do you remember how much it cost (the
  42. part, not labor)?
