  12. Greets, I am having a problem with my 86 GTi and I am welcoming comments on
  13. what the problem might be.  Here is a description of the problem:

  15. Recently, within the past month-month and a half, my car has occasionally 
  16. decided that it did not want to start.  The first time it happened, I thought
  17. that maybe I ran out of gas or something.  The plugs are getting a spark but
  18. the engine will not fire.  The starter seems 'ok' but it just won't start.
  19. My usual way to get around the problem is to wait about 1-2 minutes and then
  20. try to start the car.  This usually works.  It does not matter whether the car
  21. is hot or cold. It has happened in all conditions.  When it DOES decide to 
  22. start, the car seems like nothing ever happened.  The is no loss in power
  23. or response of the throttle.

  25. Today though, the car decided to stay dead for 45 minutes and it was not 
  26. fun.  After 45 minutes, I attempted to start the engine and it fired up
  27. to about 2k rpms and immediatly died.  This was very quickly and after 
  28. that it would not start again.  I did this two more times with about 5 mins
  29. between each occurance.  Eventually It just started up like nothing was 
  30. wrong.   I am thinking that I may have a plug in my fuel line somewhere or
  31. that maybe a pump is dying.  Does anyone have a clue as to what might
  32. be wrong with this auto before I tear into the fuul system?

  39. BTW: I use only Super Unleaded and there has not been a fuel filter change
  40. in about 25,000 miles.  The fuel filter will be changed this weekend as
  41. soon as I get a chance.
