- Actually, in the distributors case, both replacements were due to oil leaking
- into the distributor. The EGR valves were making annoying noise at idle,
- the ox sensor and water pump were recalls, the knock sensor and computer were
- replaced because the car would turn off during idle, or even during motion
- between gears. And the turn signal relay was bad because my turn signal
- wouldn't work. The only thing I paid for was the turn signal relay. Byt
- the way, I regularly steam clean the engine, check it for leaks, etc., check
- my brakes/cvjoints and all that kind of thing too. I'm just saying for me
- it is worth it since I love my car, but for a lot of people it's not. IMHO,
- they could get a lot of sales if they just pay a little more attention to
- quality control. Of course, another reason their sales are down is they are
- always lagging behind in bringing new models (e.g. the 93's, or the 90 GTI
- 16v in 1990 when I bought my GLI), i.e., they have fewer products out there
- for sale. Especially when you can go buy all the 93 Japanese models, a lot
- of people look elsewhere if they are looking for a car now. Just an
- observation, and no flames intended.
