- Had a similar (only 3000 rpm) problem with an 86 Golf after
- leaving it parked for 3 weeks in the winter.

- Throttle cable moved smoothly though. Turned out to be a
- stiff secondary butterfly. The spring would no longer completely
- close it. Doesn't have to be open much to idle at 3000.
- Of course it would only stick after accelerating hard enough to
- open it. Liberal use of WD-40 and lots of working it by hand
- eventually cured it.
