  14. VW is not totally blameless here.  The small front quarter windows
  15. made VWs very easy targets as did the design of the door handles which
  16. allowed easy break-in via scewdriver.

  18. VW can't be blamed for the popular (to theives) DIN sized stereo
  19. mounting hole or the nice pseudo high end stereos they install.

  21. VW should be applauded for the new Passat/Corrado and GolfIII/JettaIII
  22. door handles that are supposed to be significantly improved in this
  23. regard.  They should be applauded for the tamper resistant stereo
  24. systems which stop functioning when stolen.  They should be applauded
  25. for making alarms standard equipment on Passat and Corrado.

  27. They obviously realize that it is a problem and are trying to make
  28. things better.  The new names "Golf III" and "Jetta III" are supposed
  29. to divorce the new cars from the old cars insurance history.  Perhaps
  30. this will help insurance rates for those cars.
