  13. Ok, I'm in over my head here and I need help!!!! The old 85 Isuzu
  14. Impulse came up for it's smog test this year. Unlike prior smog tests,
  15. however, this time it failed with flying colors. Knowing nothing about
  16. this emission control crud, I was sorely tempted to pay the local
  17. garage to fix it, but I just couldn't bring myself to let some
  18. stranger touch my beloved daily driver's engine.

  20. The problem is that I know next to nothing about these silly smog
  21. control devices. We don't use 'em on race cars, so I've never had to
  22. deal with them. I need some advice from someone who knows a little
  23. about these things.

  25. For starters, my EGR ports are clogged up. What's the best/easiest way
  26. to clean these out? I replaced the EGR valve and cleaned out what I
  27. could reach through the EGR valve holes, but evidently the ports are
  28. cloged deeper in the chamber than I can reach. Would carb spray clear
  29. these out?

  31. Next, the car failed the tailpipe emissions test. This is really where
  32. I'm lost. Test results were:

  48. Where should I start to get these emissions down. I'm particuarly
  49. concerned about the Ilde readings, since they are the farthest off.
  50. I'm assuming that if I can get the idle reading for Carbon Monoxide 
  51. in range, the cruise readings should drop as well.

  53. The engine is a 2 liter 4 cylinder, with computer controlled fuel
  54. injection (no, I haven't messed with the chip!) so I can't play with
  55. the mixture much.

  57. Has anyone tried these "smog check" fuel additiives that are supposed to
  58. reduce emissions. Do they work?
