- I own an '89 Dodge Caravan. I bought the extended warranty from Chrysler.
- At that time it cost $595. Now they want around $795. Would I buy it again?
- Yes - and I did on my '92 Lebaron. One of the neat things about the
- Chrysler extended warranty is: it covers struts! Now Chrysler struts may
- not be the greatest but at a cost of $25 I'll just let Chrysler keep replacing
- them.
-
- Also, the Chrysler extended warranty covers rental car expenses (to a point)
- AFTER (note the key word here) the problem has been diagnosed and the
- vehicle needs to be in the shop. (What you want to do if you can is try
- to get your car scheduled to be looked at early in the morning. Beg, plead,
- say it's your only car and you cannot be without it long, whatever you have
- to get it diagnosed in the morning. That way the warranty helps with a
- rental car)
-
- Here are my expenses with and without the warranty to date in 44k miles.
-
- Description Normal 7/70 Extended Warranty
-
- (1) Fuel Pump $100 $25
- (2) Radiator (can you believe!) $100 $25
- (3) Struts (no 7/70 coverage) $150 est $25
- (4) Leaky valve guide $100 $25
- (5) Rental car due to (4) $150 est $37 (extra insurance)
- ---- ----
- $600 $137
-
- And I'll be getting new struts next spring I'm sure.
-
- Having owned 3 TOYOTAS, I would not consider an extended warranty on a
- TOYOTA product. Chrysler has come a long way but has a bit further to go.
-
- Just my experiences. Bob Fortune
