- Solid-axle rear bearings are typically permanently-lubed and just get
- replaced. To get 1/2" wobble is pretty bad. Pulling axles varies from
- type to type. Brute force was necessary for me (brute force and a
- crowbar, that is). The parts ought to be pretty cheap - a bearing and a
- seal. If you have the 9" Ford rear, it was pretty much made to come apart
- from what I gather, so you might have a pretty easy time of it.
-
- If you beat the truck on rocks or something, there's the possibility of
- a bent wheel or axle. When you pull the axles you might have them checked.
- Also, R&R of the wheel bearings may need the services of a press. I saw an
- ad the other day for Pep Boys where they'll replace them for $10 an axle
- labor - beats cutting them off with a chisel and paying to have them
- pressed on anyway.
