  19. Well, he had driven 427 Cobras before, which didn't exactly handle either.
  20. I wonder, was there anything to stop a well-heeled club racer buying a 917
  21. (or failing that, a GT40) and entering Le Mans? What certification existed
  22. in those days? What did the ACO require to enter their classic? (or in 
  23. French, classique?)

  25. John Woolfe was not that unknown however. He was obviously fairly
  26. wealthy. Unfortunately all my books have just been moved away so I
  27. can't look anything up.

  29. As to the 917s handling - interesting that when both Ford and Porsche
  30. set out to build a supercar (GT40 and 917 respectively) they both took
  31. more than a year to get the handling sorted out. And in both cases it
  32. was actually done by an English group (although with plenty of other
  33. European and Antipodean input).
