  23.  In fact there was a bit of disagreement during the discussion phase over
  24. exactly how Pure our Precious Bodily Fluids were to be kept and just how
  25. limited the topic list was to be. Some of us are more tolerant of topical
  26. divergence.

  28.  The fact that the vote passed reflects the desirability of the subject,
  29. not necessarily agreement with Gerry's parameters for the discussion of
  30. the subject. I voted for the group because I like old cars, not because
  31. (rather, in spite of the fact that) Gerry said that only (to paraphrase)
  32. completely original, unmodified-in-any-way, over-25-year-old cars should 
  33. be discussed.

  35.  Weekly, daily, hourly postings of the charter will not maintain Purity.
  36. Usenet is bounded chaos. People will post to a group with an appealing
  37. title without reading to the bottom of it or taking time to acclimate
  38. themselves to the "culture". Live and let post, says I. But then, I'm
  39. not that emotional.

  41.  While it's true that there are other newsgroups and mailing lists with
  42. primary subjects more in line with the questions posed, it's also true
  43. that everyone has to start asking somewhere, and the guy with an old(er)
  44. car might reasonably expect to start asking here. Shouting "Unclean!" 
  45. and posting a copy of the charter do little to advance the hobby or the
  46. image of enthusiasts; similar attitudes in the real world are contributing
  47. to the "graying" of the antique auto scene.

  49.  Now that I've belabored the subject yet again, I will close by enjoining
  50. the readership to recognise that new participants are important to keep
  51. the newsgroup fresh and that a helpful reply, even a pointer to a more
  52. helpful newsgroup, is better for all concerned (maybe better for your
  53. blood pressure too, Gerry) than griping about net.improprieties.
