- Lately I've been wondering what the effects are of these pollution
- control programs that some states have that buy up older cars just to
- get them off the road. I don't know of any such program locally
- (Maryland), but I did hear that Virginia is considering it. I'd like
- to get some opinions from states that do have such programs. More
- specifically:
- 1. What is done with the cars? Immediate total destruction? Or is an
- attempt made to salvage useable parts first?
- 2. How are the availability and prices of the older cars affected?
