  13. Hello beginner.  Aren't we all - all through our lives.  
  14. Enough philosophy.  I started a few years ago by buying
  15. a Jaguar XJ-6 for about $4000.  I put about $700 into
  16. it and sold it for $3800!  There's something wrong with
  17. this picture.  However, I learned a LOT!  Perhaps even
  18. $900 worth!  The error was selecting a car that I have
  19. always loved but without looking at the market for the
  20. final product.  Now if an XJ-6 had been what I wanted to 
  21. keep and enjoy forever, all would have been well.  BUT, 
  22. as with most things, a little experience changed my tastes.
  23. Today I am building a Jaguar XJ-S while driving another
  24. XJ-S!  I like XJ-S's.  When the older XJ-S that is under
  25. reconstruction is complete I will sell it and combine
  26. that money with the money I made from the reconstruction
  27. of a 1966 Jaguar 3.8s and, here it is - the big plan:
  28. BUY A ROLLS to rebuild!  I want an older one with the
  29. swooping fenders!   Aaaaargh.  It'll be grand!

  31. So, if one would be so foolish as to ask my opinion, I 
  32. would recommend building a vintage British car such as
  33. a Jaguar, MG, Triumph, Morris, Sunbeam, Mini, Rover, 
  34. etc.  These cars are rather simple, parts are not very
  35. expensive and quite a bit of fun when completed.  
  36. Additionally, many of the British car parts are 
  37. interchangable so when you go looking for a distributor
  38. cap for a Jaguar you can use the Jag, Rover or Triumph
  39. part.  They are identical.  Jaguar timing chains are
  40. unlike anything else in the universe.  Such is life.
  41. Additionally, there is enough international interest in
  42. these cars that parts are always available.  Many
  43. places like XK's Unlimited or Victoria British specialize
  44. in parts for the purist who wants the restoration to
  45. be "correct".

  48. the care and feeding of British cars.  Before you decide
  49. what to buy, you might want to get on that group and
