- Hello beginner. Aren't we all - all through our lives.
- Enough philosophy. I started a few years ago by buying
- a Jaguar XJ-6 for about $4000. I put about $700 into
- it and sold it for $3800! There's something wrong with
- this picture. However, I learned a LOT! Perhaps even
- $900 worth! The error was selecting a car that I have
- always loved but without looking at the market for the
- final product. Now if an XJ-6 had been what I wanted to
- keep and enjoy forever, all would have been well. BUT,
- as with most things, a little experience changed my tastes.
- Today I am building a Jaguar XJ-S while driving another
- XJ-S! I like XJ-S's. When the older XJ-S that is under
- reconstruction is complete I will sell it and combine
- that money with the money I made from the reconstruction
- of a 1966 Jaguar 3.8s and, here it is - the big plan:
- BUY A ROLLS to rebuild! I want an older one with the
- swooping fenders! Aaaaargh. It'll be grand!
-
- So, if one would be so foolish as to ask my opinion, I
- would recommend building a vintage British car such as
- a Jaguar, MG, Triumph, Morris, Sunbeam, Mini, Rover,
- etc. These cars are rather simple, parts are not very
- expensive and quite a bit of fun when completed.
- Additionally, many of the British car parts are
- interchangable so when you go looking for a distributor
- cap for a Jaguar you can use the Jag, Rover or Triumph
- part. They are identical. Jaguar timing chains are
- unlike anything else in the universe. Such is life.
- Additionally, there is enough international interest in
- these cars that parts are always available. Many
- places like XK's Unlimited or Victoria British specialize
- in parts for the purist who wants the restoration to
- be "correct".
-
- So, good luck! There is an E-mail group dedicated to
- the care and feeding of British cars. Before you decide
- what to buy, you might want to get on that group and
- "talk" to a few folks. You can request addition to
- the group by sendinf E-mail to:
-
- british-cars-request@hoosier.utah.edu
-
- requesting that you be added to the british-cars group.

- not underscores.)
-
- Enjoy,
-
- Rick
