-
- Friday I got to have my first reall fun in the snow with my new Probe
- GT. It gets mixed reviews.
-
- With wet or even slushy roads, handling, braking, and acceleration are
- all still fine. The Gatorbacks handle wetness with composure, aplomb,
- and basically don't cause my hair to stand on end.
-
- When you actually get snow or very heavy slush on the roads, though,
- things change. On the highway, with slush, I was okay. Once I hit city
- streets, particularly ones that hadn't been plowed, I was in a great
- deal of trouble. Acceleration went all to hell (no real traction) and
- braking was greatly reduced, although due to the ABS it was better than
- the acceleration!
-
- Time to get snow tires. Any suggestions? I was thinking of buying some
- Goodyear Eagle M&S's, but they're expensive, and I was told they don't
- last that long. Other ideas? Tire size is P225/50 and a 16" wheel.
-
- By the way, traction aside, the Probe is the best car I've ever driven
- in inclement weather. There was ZERO fogging in the car, even on the
- side quarter windows, the wipers worked very well, and the ABS was
- wonderful. But I still drove the family's 81 Grand Wagoneer today to
- work because I didn't want to die.
