- I think his point was that the amount of false alarms in general have
- dulled the public's sensitivity to the situation. Most of the time the owner
- of the car is not going to be within hearing distance of the alarm, such
- as in the case of the jeep above. If you hear a noise frequently enough,
- you will get used to it and tune it out as background noise. So people
- in general don't pay that much attention to alarms anymore. Even though you
- may have had your alarm installed and adjusted to perfection, YOU are the
- only one who will know this (except for the person who installed it).
- Everyone else will just assume that your alarm went off because your car got
- bumped or something, and will ignore it. That is why the original poster
- suggested a pager as a solution.
