- This is of course not the place to get into this political kettle
- of worms, so I'll stick to the `do we have to see it on TV?' issue.
-
- Now, as a staunch supporter of the First Amendment, the idea of
- censoring something because it might, or actually does, offend
- someone sets me to squirming. Hey, I know what an channel button
- is for -- when ever the subject of dentistry, roaches, or
- truely asinine politicians appear, *click*.
-
- Of course, this doesn't explain why a politician would use a
- really offensive commercial in order to get votes. It sounds to me
- like the commerical in question upset *everyone* on both sides
- of the political fence, and if it was making people physically ill
- at the same time, who was left to pay attention to the politican's
- platform? In general, I support President-elect Clinton and
- Governor Weld (MA), but they're both pro-death penalty, and I'm
- not. If they subjected me graphic pictures of executions, that
- portion of thier political platforms is going to become my focus
- when it comes to the voting booth -- and they'd both likely loose
- a vote. (I know, I know, *click*; but with a 30 second spot,
- you've seen half the commerical before you get a chance to find
- the remote which has burrowed into the couch or buried under
- some magazines...)
-
- I suppose the long and short of this tirade is this; is current
- thinking amongst political wranglers `offence sells'? I'm assuming
- that someone who is anti-choice is going to vote for the anti-choice
- canidate, and someone who is pro-choice is not. Is someone who is
- undecided really going to be moved by a commerical which causes them
- to loose their lunch?
