  16. It would be really nice if we ever had the Official
  17. Starfleet/Federation wording of the Prime directive. Its vague at
  18. best. At worst, stupid. Cases in point:

  23. III, and influencing their culture. It couldn't be considered
  24. pure - the contamination was there.

  29. was said 'damn with what you want, we're taking you'.

  33. The children had been kidnapped. This was a deliberate act
  34. against the Federation, and as such, the Prime Directive would no
  35. longer hold.

  37. >"Symbiosis" - Picard says "No" to drugs

  39. This was a request for help (see below). Picard simply stopped
  40. giving this help at his discression. To do otherwise would have
  41. created a dependecy of the Onarans on the Federation, for engine
  42. technology or maintanance.

  44. >"Pen Pal" - rescuing Data's friend
  45.  
  46. Sarjenka had asked for help, and made first contact, which as
  47. Picard says clouded the situation. This would probably count as a
  48. violation of the Prime Directive, in some sense. However, little
  49. or no _societal_ contamination was caused.

  51. >"Legacy" - rescuing people on Tasha's homeworld
  52.  
  53. They again initiated the contact. The Feds had been there before.

  55. >"Who Watches the Watchers" - people think Picard is a God
  56.  
  57. The researchers shouldn't have been there in the first place. The
  58. Enterprise just made it worse.
  59.  
  60. >"Higher Ground" - rescuing Beverly from terrorists
  61.  
  62. See "When the Bough Breaks". Picard was presented with a
  63. situation that already violated the Prime Directive, and had to
  64. deal with it as best he could.
