  11. Does anyone know the name of the supply ship in Fistfull of Data's.  It 
  12. sounded like the 'Vigo'.  Wasn't that the name of the ship that was 
  13. destroyed in Hero Worship?  Someone please help me.  I'm SOOOOOOOO

  20. The closed captions in "Fistful of Datas" list the supply shipas the 
  21. "Biko".  Mike Brown's guide lists the ship in Hero Worsip as "the science 
  22. vessel S S Vico".Continuity's backsides are safe for the moment :-)

  24. ***** Here is the information I have. On the pronunciation of Biko, the 
  25. following is an excerpt from Donald Woods' excellent book "Biko": 
  26.      "The name "Biko" is a rough approximation. To be absolutely exact, 
  27. in terms of perfect Xhosa pronunciation, the B is not pronounced "hard." 
  28. It is a soft B, the sort of noise a pipe smoker makes when puffing, 
  29. drawing in air, to light his pipe. And the emphasis is on the first 
  30. syllable. But Steve usually pronounced his name as simply as BEE-kaw, 
  31. with a hard B, to make it easier for non-Xhosas to pronounce. I told him 
  32. once that he was consistently mispronouncing his own name as a political 
  33. expedient, whereupon the next few phone calls from him started with an 
  34. exaggerated implosion of the B and an elaborate drawing out of the first 
  35. syllable. If the puffing sound is written as "Bh," what he said on the 
  36. phone was "BHEEEE-kaw speaking!"
  37.    This ends our Xhosa language class for today. Most non-Xhosa 
  38. (including Peter Gabriel) simply call him BEE-co (rhymes with VEE-co).

  45. NAMESAKE: "[Bantu] Stephen Biko (1946-1977) South African black activist, 
  46. born in King William"s Town, who was the founder and the leader of the 
  47. Black Consciousness Movement. He became involved in politics while 
  48. studying medicine at Natal University and was the president of the 
  49. all-Black South African Students Organization (1969), and honorary 
  50. president of the Black Peoples Convention (1972). In 1973 he was served 
  51. with a banning order severly restricting his movements and freedom of 
  52. speech and association. He was detained four times in the last few years 
  53. of his life, and died in police custody, allegedly [sic] as a result of 
  54. beatings received. He was the subject of a sucessful film, Cry Freedom 
  55. (1987), directed by Richard Attenborough." - The Cambridge Encyclopedia.  
  56. Steve Biko was detained by the South African Security Police for the last 
  57. time on September 6, 1977. He was interrogated and beaten for twenty two 
  58. hours and died on September 12 due to severe brain trauma - RO.

  70. (1753). New Science (1725, 1730, 1744), his monumental work, included the 
  71. idea that history had three stages; the age of the gods, the age of 
  72. heroes, and the age of men. His ideas still exercise great influence on
