- Does anyone know the name of the supply ship in Fistfull of Data's. It
- sounded like the 'Vigo'. Wasn't that the name of the ship that was
- destroyed in Hero Worship? Someone please help me. I'm SOOOOOOOO
- confused.>>Yah, I caught that too. The supply ship seemed to be the same
- one which>was destroyed in "Hero Worship" in the Very Dark Ominous
- Uncharted Cluster>(tm). The (Vigo, Biko, whatever) must have either been
- refitted, replaced,>or someone at ST:TNG Continuity is getting a stern
- spanking right now.
-
- The closed captions in "Fistful of Datas" list the supply shipas the
- "Biko". Mike Brown's guide lists the ship in Hero Worsip as "the science
- vessel S S Vico".Continuity's backsides are safe for the moment :-)

- ***** Here is the information I have. On the pronunciation of Biko, the
- following is an excerpt from Donald Woods' excellent book "Biko":
- "The name "Biko" is a rough approximation. To be absolutely exact,
- in terms of perfect Xhosa pronunciation, the B is not pronounced "hard."
- It is a soft B, the sort of noise a pipe smoker makes when puffing,
- drawing in air, to light his pipe. And the emphasis is on the first
- syllable. But Steve usually pronounced his name as simply as BEE-kaw,
- with a hard B, to make it easier for non-Xhosas to pronounce. I told him
- once that he was consistently mispronouncing his own name as a political
- expedient, whereupon the next few phone calls from him started with an
- exaggerated implosion of the B and an elaborate drawing out of the first
- syllable. If the puffing sound is written as "Bh," what he said on the
- phone was "BHEEEE-kaw speaking!"
- This ends our Xhosa language class for today. Most non-Xhosa
- (including Peter Gabriel) simply call him BEE-co (rhymes with VEE-co).
