- Lets face a few facts. Colin Baker presented a Dr. to the audience that
- people didn't like simply because he acted the part differently. The
- previous Doctor was mainly your huggable type who was more human than alien.
- The 6th Doctor suffered one of the most traumatic regenerations of any
- incarnation, and of course he would be unstable. Just look at the riot
- of colors which made up the costume. Surely this indicates anm unbalanced
- incarnation.
- Now because Baker played the Doctor like the alien he was people bag the hell
- out of him. Cast your minds back to the 4th Doctor. Wasn't he the most alien
- of his predecessors? Of course, because that is how Tom Baker wished to
- play him that way.
- Personally, i very much enjoyed the brief period of Colin Bakers reign, and it
- is that brevity that so angers and saddens me. As was pointed out in Dr.
- Who magazine some time ago, if Baker had continued on, the 6th Doctor would
- have gained some of the mysterious qualities that the 7th Doctor enjoyed.
- And everyone seemed to enjoy that in the 7th Docotr, didn't they? Given
- the nature of his tenure, Colin Baker and the supporting cast, get top marks
- from me for the job they did. It was often entertaining and provocative,
- which is what it was meant to be. If the scripts were bad, and i find little
- evidence of that iun 90% of the stories, then so what. Were you all
- entertained. Didn't you get a kick out of seeing the Daleks, Cybermen, Davros
- the Master, the Rani, the Valeyard and the Sontarans. WEren't you
- intrigued by the Trial season? Didn't the 6th Doctor's portrayal make
- you think about the true nature of the Doctor, that he was a Time Lord, an
- ALIEN. And foremost, weren't you entertained. Doctor Who is all about
- entertainment, so wake up people and smell the coffee. Colin Baker and
- the 6th Doctor were great, so give them a fair go.
