  27. Seriously folks , while there have been a few cases where a show may have
  28. been initiated to sell a product (Capt. Power or some such thing is one that
  29. comes to mind), in many cases what folks want to call commercials were not
  30. such in the beginning at least.  For instance, TMNT was a cartoon long before
  31. there were any products being bought up by the population.  And while Care
  32. Bears and Pony had products out, most other cartoons did as well - Flintstones
  33. vitamins and cereal (and they are not even MAKING new Flintstones cartoon!),
  34. Warner's Looney Tunes stores (and few of these cartoons are even being made
  35. today either - they just keep selling the merchandise over the reruns), etc.
  36.  
  37. And then, of course, there is the entire _anime_ concept where the series
  38. are typically designed with product releases ...  I mean, even Ringo Starr
  39. and Shining station has Thomas the Tank Engine cartoons, books , COSTUMES, etc.
