- RTK>Hi. Why is it that in the 50s and 60s they used to show cartoons before
- RTK>the movie started in movie theatres, and now we listen to elevator music
- RTK>and watch colored lights?
-
- Because cartoons (and other shorts) cost money to rent and the
- exhibitors did not think it made people come to their theatres. They
- are a cheap and greedy bunch and cut corners and cost every chance they
- get. Since cartoons got increasingly poorer during the 50s & 60s fewer
- and fewer people actually cared.
-
- Also, by showing fewer things along with the feature, they were able to
- pack in an extra show or two per day.
-
- Some theatres, mostly those showing old movies, do run shorts, usually
- from some collection. There is no longer a dependable source for shorts
- so first-run chains couldn't get them even if they did want to run them.
