- One of the best books I've read on BOTH the art and technique
- of animation is called (I think) "Disney Animation: The Illusion Of
- Life" (Thomas, Frank and Johnston, Ollie. Abbeyville Press, New York,
- 1981). It's in the bibliography of almost every paper I've seen
- written on animation (be it cel, clay, computer, etc...). It's an
- amazing book (although I did have to specially request it to be
- removed from a locked box in the art library at my university). The
- Disney folks basically taught themselves (and in the process,
- *invented*) the methods for doing the most realistic animations. This
- book follows their entire path. It has an incredible amount of useful
- information, not to mention many beautiful frames from various Disney
- and non-Disney films.
-
- I'd suggest buying it EXCEPT for the fact that the price is so
- high. If it were even down around the price of college textbooks...
- well, if I have to say "down" to get to those outrageous prices, you
- can guess about this one. :-\ I'd suggest checking a college
- library... you may get lucky.
-
- There's several other books that are often mentioned as
- references or good do-it-yourself animation training books. Is it
- worth my time to type in a list?
