  24.    I have to admit that I didn't like the show very much as BATMAN stuff.
  25. However, there are a *LOT* of sci-fi/robot inside jokes throughout the movie,
  26. so I think that the episode was meant more as a tribute to the great "robot"
  27. movies of sci-fi.  The episode made references to:

  29.     o 2001: A Space Odyssey
  30.         Kevin mentioned in his post that HARDAC resembled HAL in appearance
  31.       and vocal tone.  I agree, especially when you note the single red
  32.       lens that acts as HARDAC's "eye."  (However, I don't think you can
  33.       shift the letters in HARDAC to get "Informix" or anything like that
  34.       :-)
  35.     o The Terminator (1 & 2)
  36.         The robot factory within HARDAC looked a lot like the terminator
  37.       factory that you saw in the trailers to _T2_ -- assembling an arm,
  38.       attaching the arm to an endoskeleton, and then putting the
  39.       endoskeleton into this press-thingie to surround it in flesh.  Also,
  40.       in the next episode trailer, you saw the blonde with a
  41.       half-torn up face revealing a metal skull and one red eye underneath.
  42.       She was trying to press Batman underneath a big hydraulic press
  43.       like the one Sarah Connor used to kill the terminator in the first
  44.       movie.  Give you three guesses how I think the blonde robot is gonna
  45.       get it at the end of part II...

  47.     o Blade Runner
  48.         HARDAC calls his robot doubles "duplicants" -- echoing "replicants"
  49.       from Blade Runner.  Also, (to finally address the article quoted
  50.       above), the voice for Rossen was done by William Sanderson, known for
  51.       playing (surprise!) J.F. Sebastian in _Blade Runner_.
