- MWD>>>Tom and Jerry? Filmation?
- MWD>>As a matter of fact, in its waning days, Filmation put out the
- MWD>>next-to-last known incarnation (there is currently one under the
- MWD>>auspices of Turner Broadcasting) of the characters.
- MWD>This is *driving* *me* *crazy*!!!! I can't find a reference to this show
- MWD>anywhere! All I can find are Hanna-Barbera and MGM Tom & Jerry's. Please
- MWD>someone tell me the actual name of this thing before I explode! (my stupid
- MWD>books don't cross-reference anything!)
-
- There was a Saturday morning Filmation Tom & Jerry show called -
- naturally enough - the "Tom & Jerry Comedy Show." Unlike the
- Hanna-Barbera TV T&J show of the 70s, the Filmation show did try to
- imitate the style of Tex Avery and Hanna-Barbera (the T&J theatrical
- cartoons), and there were a few interesting gags in there.
- Unfortunately, the abysmal Filmation animation ruined each and every
- episode, through their practice of continually re-using the same
- pieces of animation over and over and over....and over and over...
- and over and over and over again. As a result, the T&J chase scenes
- were the exact same chase scene - same movements and all - in
- every cartoon, the pitfalls were the same, the gimmicks used (such
- as chasing each other in toy planes) were the same...and so on and
- so on.
-
- Our locak Fox affiliate in Boston shows the syndicated "Tom & Jerry
- And Friends" cartoon show every day, and this show includes ALL of
- T&J's incarnations. Viewers of this show are as likely to see a
- classic Hanna-Barbera theatrical short, a Gene Deitch T&J, a
- Chuck Jones T&J, a Hanna-Barvera TV T&J - or a Filmation T&J.
-
- If you want to see the Filmation T&J (you fool you!), see if you
- can find this show on TV.
