- To Todd: Dana's correct about keeping the gravel filterbed
- clean, but don't clean the whole thing at one time; only clean
- about 1/3 of the filterbed at a time when you do your water
- changes (say about every 3 or 4 weeks). Use a gravel vacuum
- or just gently scoop out about a 1/3 of the gravel and rinse
- it in a bucket using the tank water that you are siphoning out
- of the tank (don't use tap water). This way you don't spike
- the tank chemistry too radically by stirring up all the gunk.
-
- To fellow newsgroupers: What about Todd's original question?
- How long could a typical marine UGF stand a power outage?
- How would you recover from, say, an 8 - 12 hour outage? Do
- an immediate radical water change? Do a total filterbed rinse
- (as described above) and then a 100% water change? Anyone
- had any experiences with power outages from which you successfully
- recovered?
