- It sort of sounds like a "relish jar" to me. These aren't much in vogue
- in the current culture, since relish comes premade in glass. Prior to
- modern food preservation and marketing, relishes were often made and
- served fresh, with large chunks of vegetables andor fruits.

- Our American Polychrome (Spanish Lace) glass collection has about 14 or
- 15 relish jars, with silver bases with handles and lids, and glass
- inserts for holding the relish. The better specimens still have the
- serving spoons and forks (usually paired) with them.
