- "Straw" Call For Votes
- on the proposed NEW newsgroup
- rec.games.frp.campaign
-
- <you can vote YES or NO for this "Straw" Call for votes>
- <note, charter of group follows this message>
- <note also, .campaign is now proposed as unmoderated>
-
- Voting Period: Nov13-30th
-
- This is not an official call for vote for the forming of a new newsgroup.
- This is merely a "poll" to determine whether there is enough interest in
- rec.games.frp.campaign to warrent a full Call for Votes(CFV).
-
- If you
- 1) Support rec.games.frp.campaign as it is and believe it should be
- created...
- or 2) Are not perfectly satisfied with rec.games.frp.campaign as it
- is but do think it warrents further discussion...
-
- Then respond to this note, in e-mail, with the text "I support the further
- discussion of .campaign."
-
- If you
- 1) Are opposed to .campaign...
- or 2) Do not care, and will not be voting if a CFV is posted...
-
- Then respond to this note, in e-mail, with the text "I do not support
- the further discussion of .campaign"
-
- Implication of Vote:
- If less than 100 people respond to this "straw" vote, the discussion
- of the creaton of rec.games.frp.campaign will be dropped. Otherwise,
- discussion will be continued, and a formal CFV will eventually be made.

-
- Revised Proposal (November 13, 1992)
-
- rec.games.frp.campaign
-
- Proposed Newsgroup: rec.games.frp.campaign
-
- Type: UNMODERATED
-
- PLEASE NOTE:
- The purpose of rec.games.frp.campaign is NOT to provide a conference for
- the posting of play-by-e-mail GM or player moves!
- There are NO restrictions on posting due to "quality" of posts.
-
- Charter:
- The purpose of rec.games.frp.campaign is to provide an area for the
- posting of ongoing fantasy role-playing game campaigns, which are written up
- in story format. In other words, no game terminology may be used, and the
- campaign 'moves' or 'chapters' will be in story form. It is hoped that these
- stories will entertain the readers of the newsgroup, and help provide them
- with ideas for their own campaigns.
- In addition, discussions of campaigns and campaigning will be permitted.
- Campaign discussion is the discussion of the "story" aspect of RPG campaigns
- both on and off the net. Discussion of campaigning is a general exchange of
- ideas on how GMs can improve the "story" aspect of their own RPG campaigns.
-
- Acceptable Posting Items/Topics
-
- 1. FAQ.
-
- The FAQ will contain (of course) answers to frequently asked questions.
- Initially, it will contain the following information:
- - The rules and purpose of .rec.games.frp.campaign
- - A list of current GMs, their e-mail addresses, and whether or not
- they require more players for their campaign.
- - A list of current GMs, and their e-mail addresses, and whether
- or not they require more players for their campaign.
-
- 2. Campaign moves.
-
- A campaign move consists of what can be best described as a scene in a
- movie, or a chapter in a book. A 'move' will describe the current location
- and environment of the campaign, the actions of the characters (as determined
- by the individual players), and the results of these actions. A properly
- designed move will be as easy to follow for a complete novice to fantasy role
- playing as it will to an expert. Once a campaign has terminated, the end
- result should basically be a short story or a book.
- GMs will have to apply to the moderator before beginning a net-campaign.
- This is simply to allow the moderator to keep track of what games are ongoing
- in the newsgroup.
-
- 3. GM Statistical Post
-
- These will be restricted to once/month or one/move (moderator's decision).
- This post can include the background for the GM's campaign, and possibly
- statistical information on the characters in the campaign, or the campaign
- world in which the adventure takes place.
- These GM statistical posts will allow players of the same RPG to relate
- more closely to the campaign.
-
- 4. Discussion of Campaigns
-
- Controlled discussion of existing campaigns (live or net), ideas for new
- campaigns, and campaigning in general. All references to campaign are to the
- "story" aspect of the campaign, not to individual RPG rules.
-
- Justification for Uniqueness
-
- The campaign is one of the most important concepts of role playing. The
- newsgroup .campaign will provide a centralized location for fantasy role
- players to study the campaigns of others, discuss these campaigns, and talk
- about campaigning in general. While some of the posts which are described
- above could be made in .frp newsgroups other than .campaign (such as .archives
- or .misc), the fact remains that the campaign is certainly an important enough
- element to deserve it's own news area. It is also not possible, with
- different campaign elements spread over different .frp newsgroups, to get the
- type of centralized campaign environment that .campaign can provide.
-
-
- send any questions, comments, to cbnorman@undergrad.math.uwaterloo.ca.
- send any flames to null@null.null.null.null
-
- This proposal will continue to be updated.
