  14.  John Hancock Financial Services is seeking applicants for a lead
  15.  position in Network Operations developing network management procedures
  16.  and implementing network management systems.  John Hancock is a large
  17.  financial services company with extensive networking in its
  18.  five-building home office complex and throughout the United States.
  19.  
  20.  The position involves the planning and implementation of tools and
  21.  procedures for the real-time management of the company's wide-area and
  22.  home-office data networks.  It requires expertise in all aspects of
  23.  data networking, including:
  24.  
  25.          - communications protocols and routing
  26.          - de facto and international networking standards
  27.          - carrier services
  28.          - network management systems
  29.          - problem determination techniques
  30.          - an understanding of network design and capacity planning
  31.  
  32.  Experience with Wellfleet routing, intelligent wiring hubs,
  33.  IBM LAN bridging, and UNIX administration is a plus.  A knowledge
  34.  of IBM mainframe networking (SNA, VTAM, NCP, LU 6.2) would be useful.

  36.  The job entails working with a variety of internal customers and
  37.  technical support people and outside vendors.  The applicant's
  38.  experience must demonstrate high self-motivation and the ability to
  39.  manage complex projects relating to the testing and management of
  40.  communications hardware and services.  Strong oral and written
  41.  presentation skills and good interpersonal skills are essential.

  43.  A minimum of two years experience in a data communications position
  44.  managing large (1500+ nodes) multi-protocol networks is required.
  45.  
  46.  The job may require occasional travel.  There may be an adjusted work
  47.  week to cover evening and weekend activity.
