- John Hancock Financial Services is seeking applicants for a lead
- position in Network Operations developing network management procedures
- and implementing network management systems. John Hancock is a large
- financial services company with extensive networking in its
- five-building home office complex and throughout the United States.

- The position involves the planning and implementation of tools and
- procedures for the real-time management of the company's wide-area and
- home-office data networks. It requires expertise in all aspects of
- data networking, including:

- - communications protocols and routing
- - de facto and international networking standards
- - carrier services
- - network management systems
- - problem determination techniques
- - an understanding of network design and capacity planning

- Experience with Wellfleet routing, intelligent wiring hubs,
- IBM LAN bridging, and UNIX administration is a plus. A knowledge
- of IBM mainframe networking (SNA, VTAM, NCP, LU 6.2) would be useful.

- The job entails working with a variety of internal customers and
- technical support people and outside vendors. The applicant's
- experience must demonstrate high self-motivation and the ability to
- manage complex projects relating to the testing and management of
- communications hardware and services. Strong oral and written
- presentation skills and good interpersonal skills are essential.

- A minimum of two years experience in a data communications position
- managing large (1500+ nodes) multi-protocol networks is required.

- The job may require occasional travel. There may be an adjusted work
- week to cover evening and weekend activity.
