- It may be that a few marginal items like towing and substitute
- transportation rates are not set by the state (Commonwealth if you prefer),
- but the all the compulsary rates are regulated as are the collision,
- comprehensive etc. The rates vs. territories are also set up by the state,
- not by individual companies.

-
- This is simply NOT TRUE. State Farm insures my '84 300ZX turbo (hopefully
- I'll be selling it soon) and my '93 Corvette in Massachusetts. My '89
- Tracer is insured with some bogus company called "Arbella" because I was in
- a hurry when I registered it and it was easier to go an insurance agent
- that was 1/4 mile from the dealer than to go to State Farm to get it
- insured and registered. I will probably switch that one to State Farm
- also, when my policy next expires (January). I've heard lots of bad
- reports about AAA and Allstate (probably the worst in the country), but
- very few adverse reports on State Farm.

-
- It may be that they did the quotes differently, some including the various
- discounts in the quotes and others not. For instance, State Farm quoted me
- $2100 to insure the Vette ($300 deductible, waiver-of-deductible, no glass
- deductible, substantially increased liability and property damage, etc).
- That quote didn't include any of the discounts; once the safe-driver,
- airbag, theft-deterrent, and whatever other discounts are applied it turns
- out to cost somewhere between $1500 and $1600 for a sports/performance car
- that lists for about $41K. It would be a bit lower if I got LoJack, but
- not enough to make it worth it for the insurance savings (maybe about $70
- per year).
