- Well, I'm not sure how glad you'll be to take this suggestion, but have you
- tried pulling back?
-
- My experience has been that children begin learning they can manipulate things
- at around 6 mos. old. From then until about 2.5 they seem to take the greatest
- pleasure from these manipulations. Look, if I do X, Mom screams. Isn't that
- funny! Let's try again.
-
- So, when pulling my hair became a way to get a rise out of mom, as it did for
- both my children, I showed them what it felt like. I grabbed their hair and
- pulled. Not hard, just enough for them to feel uncomfortable.
-
- Mitchell long ago gave up this game (after all, he's 4). But Erin still
- plays it occasionally. She'll grab my hair and I'll grab hers. Often that
- is enough. Sometimes she'll tug gently. THen I'll tug gently. If she pulls
- hard, I pull hard. When she lets go, I let go.
-
- I don't think they realize that they are actually hurting you and you have to
- show them this.
