- A couple of suggestions...
-
- (1) Pick up (or take along) one of those little plastic snow
- dishes (about 2.5 feet across) with a long rope attached. You
- can probably put both kids in it and pull them around in the
- snow. The ski areas probably won't let you have them in those
- areas, however, unless they have something like a sled hill... but
- the kids (mine anyway at that age) enjoy being pulled around in
- the little dish... (usually the bigger one holds on to the littler
- one).
-
- (2) If it snows while you are up there, take a walk the morning
- after... and look for tracks in the snow. Let the kids try to guess
- what kind of animal made the tracks.
-
- (3) You might rent showshoes for everyone... perhaps the little one
- would be happier in a backpack, though. Take some short walks around.
- (I don't know the area you are going to... but we usually go to Yosemite
- at New Years and I always take the kids on a couple of nature hikes of
- some sort...)
-
- (4) At Yosemite we usually see some raccoons in among the cabins
- in the winter... these are fun to watch, but you need to keep a
- short leash on the kids so they don't get BIT. The coons are so tame
- at Yosemite, they may run up your leg... and have trouble telling
- fingers from food (I don't condone feeding them, but that's why
- they hang around the cabins...).
-
- (5) If you have a tradition at home of reading bedtime stories... do
- it on vacation also. If not, give it a try instead of the tube...
- I usually try to pick up something with a rural theme for a vacation...
- but my kids are a bit older. (Even Frosty the Snow man might be fun).
-
- Have fun,
-
- Bill
