- Yeah! Actually I like to think of David as "sensitive" --- he is
- easily overstimulated and was fussy quite alot for the first 8
- months. Now that he can move around on his own, he's alot
- happier, but still doesn't sleep as well in daycare, etc. I
- really had a hard time at first, watching the other babies in my
- mother's group who all seemed so mellow. No way we could have
- taken David to Acapulco for a week at 4 months like one couple we
- know did. We all would have been miserable, and in the hotel room
- most of the time. Now I feel like David is actually a pretty good
- match for us --- I'm fairly high-strung myself. But for a long
- time it was hard not to think it was my fault.
-
- Strangely enough, my mother's group helped, because it became
- strikingly clear that each baby was different. For instance, two
- babies whose mothers were both with them almost all the time went
- through separation and stranger anxiety quite differently. So
- clearly it wasn't something (obvious) the mothers were doing. I
- didn't really feel that the mothers of the laid-back babies
- understood what I was experiencing, though. And I still bristle a
- bit when people say what an easy time they've had as a mother!
