- Here is a data point in the "eat when and what you want".
-
- My children have friends that when they come to my house
- assume that my house is as theirs and they can eat when
- and what they want and just help themselves. I gently
- remind them that they are welcome to have whatever they
- like they must ask for it first. Unfortunely since they
- don't spend a great amount of time at my house we are always
- going back to square one.
-
- I am of the opinion that children will eat when they are ready
- but I also believe that it is my responsiblity to teach them they
- can't always run and play when it is suppertime just because they
- aren't hungry. The rule at my house is "If you aren't hungry, that
- is fine then don't eat it but you must sit down quietly with us
- while we are eatting" I always put a plate of whatever we are having
- and sometimes they eat and sometimes they don't. I do try and limit
- sweets but not to a great extent. If they choose not to eat dinner
- they may have apples, carrots etc with peanut butter or cheese but
- no candy.
