  16. After reading time and time again about this or that company
  17. issuing 2 million more shares, it suddenly dawned on me
  18. that I don't understand how this process works !!

  20. I understand a stock split, where each slice of the
  21. corporate pie is just being divided into smaller slices.  
  22. But I don't know where new shares come from.

  24. If a share is supposed to represent a peice of the corporation, 
  25. how can "new" peices get created??  Where did these new peices 
  26. come from?

  28. Are these shares that already existed, but were held
  29. internally by the corporation??

  31. If anyone can shed light on how this process works,
  32. it would be greatly appreciated.
