- Yes you can do this. You don't have to be travelling. You can buy
- travellers cheques anytime. I am Canadian and buy US dollars that
- way because AMEX gives a better exchange rate than the banks give.

- You obviously don't earn any return except on a foreign exchange play
- though if you hold the currency. You'd be better off (if your willing
- to risk) to buy the currency and invest it in bonds or stocks in that
- nation. Directly or through mutual funds.

- tip: I believe the Canadian dollar is undervalued at present and would
- consider it a (slightly) attractive investment for a medium (2-5 year)
- play. IMHO.
