  20. To be honest, I don't know whether W.C. says that or it's just the
  21. nurse.  She's maintained a totally subjective and emotional stance
  22. about all of this.

  24. I made it clear that at this point, levels of disability aren't relevant
  25. and are totally subjective anyway.  In other words, only I can decide
  26. this.  I'm supported by a numb, paralyzed lower leg and foot which
  27. produces constant, usually intolerable burning pain.

  29. What's the difference between that and being supported by a prosthesis?

  31. Simply, if amputation doesn't work, I still don't have a useful leg,
  32. and I still have pain, perhaps worse.

  34. BUT, if it DID work, I'd have little or no pain, and still have support
  35. from a prosthesis.

  37. As cold and blunt as it may sound, the logic in all of this is so
  38. simple to ME.

  40. I told the nurse that I intend to do whatever is necessary within
  41. limits to eliminate this pain if at all possible.

  43. Her response was that "If you cannot work fulltime at your present
  44. job because of the pain, then you need to find a job where you can."!
  45.  
  46. At that point, my wife became angry and asked "What do you want him
  47. to do, work at McDonald's"?
  48.  
  49. The doctors WERE going to set up an appointment, promptly for the
  50. DCS test, but the nurse intervened and suggested to the psychologist
  51. that he give me an MMPI first.
  52.  
  53. I have nothing to hide by taking the test, and I brought it home,
  54. filled it out, and mailed it back.
  55.  
  56. What troubles me is that the nurse INFLUENCED the doctors' decision!
  57.  
  58. I will or will not be given the DCS based on the results of the MMPI,
  59. thanks to the nurse.
  60.  
  61. Finally, she stated that IF I receive the DCS (temporary) and it fails
  62. to give me relief, she is "closing my file".
  63.  
  64. Today I called a couple of attorneys that specialize in W.C. cases
  65. and scheduled consultations for next week.

  67. I really don't want to sue anyone, and I'm not out for money or
  68. attention.

  70. All I want is to be treated fairly and to have my wishes and suggestions
  71. taken seriously.
  72.  
  73. I've also mailed a letter to my family doctor, unknown to the nurse
  74. or the pain clinic folks, as a backup.  In case the DCS doesn't work,
  75. I've asked my family doctor to help me find a surgeon, if he wants
