  26.    WASHINGTON, Nov. 10   -- The American Public Health Association
  27. (APHA) today denounced the Supreme Court's refusal to review a
  28. lower court allowing H & H Music to cut off health insurance
  29. benefits to an employee with AIDS.
  30.    Calling the lower court ruling blatant discrimination against one
  31. kind of disease, APHA urged the court to hear another case and
  32. reverse these benefit denial decisions.
  33.    "The court's decision demonstrates the failure of the private
  34. insurance system," said APHA President Joyce Lashof, addressing a
  35. Capitol Hill rally.  "In light of these benefit denial decisions, no
  36. American can feel secure that private insurance will be there to
  37. protect against a catastrophic illness.  This decision shows why we
  38. need a comprehensive national health system."
  39.    Pointing out that H & H Music decision is based on a particular
  40. type of disability, the association urged that the issue be
  41. reexamined in light of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
