  24. The Silicon Valley 24hr club was under investigation by the Santa Clara
  25. County DA for a while.  It seems they switched to having people pay dues
  26. via automatic bank account or credit card debits.  When people dropped 24hr 
  27. would often keep on debiting the account for several months thereafter 
  28. and be *very* slow to refund the unauthorized payments.

  30. After my initial membership ran out it took their accounting & check-in
  31. computer system about 2 months to register the fact that I had paid to 
  32. renew.  I had to bring in the canceled check *every* visit during that
  33. time.

  35. Speaking of facilities, that 24hr's AC was virtually "under repair" for
  36. almost the entire 1-1/2 year I was there.  They also got in trouble
  37. with the local police because of it. It seems the only way people could
  38. survive aerobics during summer months was to open all the doors, blasting
  39. a neighboring residential area with high-volume, 180 bpm disco...
  40.  
  41. A few months thereafter I switched to the Western Athletic Club
  42. chain and have been much happier, though much poorer, since.
