-
- That's the low spot of the foundation floor, I'd say. My house has
- the same kind of thing: sloping crawlspace that causes everything to
- go to one corner.
-
- I'd recommend a 4" CPVC drain in the lowest spot that exhausts
- outside, and then put down a vapor barrier (6 mil plastic sheeting,
- overlapping generously). (The latter measure is fairly inexpensive
- and is easy to do; 800 sqft (100'x8' roll) of 6 mil plastic is like
- $20 at your local building supply store. (Ask for the
- contractor-grade stuff; don't buy the little rolls that are popular at
- this time of year for DIY weatherization.)
-
- So if you ever get deluged with water (due to poor drainage on the
- building site, and a week of steady downpouring rain, etc) at least
- if there is water, it has somewhere to go. And the vapor barrier
- will and you'll drastically reduce the humidity that will save your
- insulation, and more importantly, your subfloor.
-
- As a new homeowner, you will evenutally learn to RESPECT and feel
- POWERLESS by the destructive power of water. It is one of the most
- powerful forces in nature. Period.
-
- Gosh, sounds like a sermon. ;-)
