- November, 1992 Mitsubishi Campaign Update Phase II!!!
-
- The time has come for an all-out campaign against Mistsubishi!
- Beginning December, 1992, Rainforest Action Network and numerous
- NGOs will launch a major boycott of Mitsubishi and its
- subsidiaries. Mitsubishi has been targeted because it is one of
- the world's worst destroyers of tropical and temperate forests.
- Now, due to substantial private funding, RAN can afford to turn
- the heat up on Mitsubishi and sustain the campaign fight.
-
- Yoichi Kuroda, director of the Japanese Tropical Rainforest
- Action Network (JATAN) recently said that a 1% reduction in
- consumption of Mitsubishi products in the United States alone
- would likely be sufficient to extract significant concessions
- from Mitsubishi.
-
- According to Yoichi, if Mitsubishi agrees to pursue a
- sustainable timber trade, other major corporations in Japan
- will follow suit. Our goal is to reduce consumer buying of
- Mitsubishi automobiles and electronics by 10% within 12 months!
-
- The key elements for launching this campaign to boycott
- Mitsubishi will be a national press conference, full-page
- advertisements in national newspapers (e.g. the New York and
- Los Angeles Times), and most important to the success of the
- campaign, an internationally coordinated action of banner
- hangings on principal commuter routes into major cities.
- With the simple but direct slogan of "Mitsubishi Destroys
- Rainforests" Boycott Mitsubishi," we expect to reach over
- three million people in a single day.
-
- However, this can only be accomplished with the participation of
- the RAG network.
-
- For our part, RAN will pay for, make and send out banner-making
- kits (stencils, material, etc.) to all interested groups.
- If you want to be a part of launching this campaign, please
- contact Philip or Michael at RAN immediately (415-398-4404;
- FAX 398-2732). You will be sent a set of guidelines on how to
- participate in the launching of this campaign as well as a copy
- of the Mitsubishi Organizer's Manual. You will also be added to
- our campaign organizer contact list and receive regular campaign
- updates.
-
- Let's show Mitsubishi that as big as they are, they cannot
- afford to ignore us. We are confident that our boycott campaign
- strategy will work: our bottom line is the welfare of the
- planet, not profits. Won't you please join us?
-
- Hope to hear from you soon,
-
- Michael Marx, Philip Leeman,
- Mitsubishi Campaign Coordinator Mitsubishi Campaign Assist.
