- Dear Comrades,
- 300 workers at Doe Run Co. smelter in Herculaneum, outside of
- St. Louis MO, have been on strike since July 30. The company which
- has lead mines in Missouri feeding the smelters wanted the right
- to reclassify any worker and reduce wages up to 53% down to $8.50
- per hour. It was essentially a union busting operation. Doe Run,
- owned by Flour Corp., a few years ago succeeded in decertifying
- their mine unions. Smelter workers voted 272-0 to strike, and are
- pursuing company strikebreaking agents by picketing any place they
- set up shop.
- Dave Lalumondier of Teamsters local 688 says the workers would
- be glad to hear of support from fellow workers, and also they have
- a DOE RUN EMPLOYEES RELIEF FUND to acccept gifts of food or funds.
- These can be sent to: 300 Grand St., St. Louis, MO 63103. -Abraham
