Did you see the mock blast?  This sounds very exciting!  My brother-in-law is a fireman and has to practice firefighting all the time.  They also have to assist Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's) rescue people trapped in cars. One other really gross job of theirs is to retrieve bodies from the Rio Grande.
