TBS> Threatened and endangered birds seized by customs after being
What types of birds were seized? We have a similar problem here, in Brownsville. It is against the law for people coming into the U.S. from Mexico to transport turtles, alligators, cockatoos, parrots, and many other species. There was a scuffle on the bridge recently when a man wearing alligator skin boots refused to take them off, and resisted. The Customs officials had to hold him down to remove the boots.
I remember there was a craze about ten years ago over armadillo purses. People would drive into Matamoros, Mexico (which is right across the river from Brownsville), buy 30 or 40 armadillo purses, and then sell them over here for a large profit. It's hard to believe that women would pay large sums of money for a purse with a snout and clawed feet, but it's true.
