Hi!  My name is Brian Weir, and one of the things that I found especially useful when I learned how to use rationals all the way back in seventh grade was that Mrs. Bryan went over all the rules for using fractions over and over again.  Only then did we learn how to use fractions with variables in them, and most of us picked it up right away.
