  18. In a small northern city, the "crime epidemic" has not really hit us yet.
  19. I have noticed an increase of vandalism in our school and we have recently
  20. received two directives from administration:  one referred to procedures to
  21. be used upon discovering that a student is in possession of a weapon and
  22. the other was some advice on what to do when facing angry/violent students.
  23. There has also been a rash of locker break-ins recently and this is a new
  24. phenomenon in our school.
  25. In the past two years there have been two case of assault charges initiated
  26. by students against other students.
  27. There is an increasing trend of female students being brought before
  28. administration for fighting.  Such fights are usually related to boys or
  29. status.
  30. Overall, I would say that there is a deterioration of behaviour in our
  31. school.

  35. Personally, I have not been threatened by students (I'm 6'6" and weigh
  36. about 245 pounds) but I know that smaller teachers (particularly females)
  37. have found themselves in situations in which they felt intimidated.

  46. I don't believe that my classroom management style has changed.  However,
  47. when I am dealing with any student in what might be considered a
  48. potentially adversarial situation, I am aware that many students react to
  49. such pressures with violence.
