I am not Mohawk to my knowledge but am curious about my past as my great grandfather was native but I do not know from what nation. My great-grandmother married twice and both times to native people but my family never discussed this part of my family history. Regardless I have been a student of native american ways for many years and advocate for equal rights.
I live in an area, off the Mohawk trail, which is rich with native lore. Historic Deerfield , of the massacre fame is to the south. I have hiked the original Mohawk Trail , only a few miles, and was impressed with the beauty ofthe vistas. I have been privileged to kayak along Deerfield River in Charlemont which leads into the Conneticut River and was a frequently used thoroughfare for native people and early trappers. There are many amateur archaeologists whose collection of native piece is q
uit impressive and right now Wal_Mart is trying to build on a site that has been found to contain a multitude of arrow heads. There are frequent pow_wows along the trail and south of our area into Conneticut and to the east in the cape cod area.
Other activities which help keep the culture alive are seasonal sweats where we welcome and rejoice in the coming of a new season by participating in an inipi, sweat lodge and common meal after.
As to you other questions I will put some of them on the Indian Affairs Network or if you are able to get that area you might do the same.
