- Hello from Spokane:
- Our fourth grade class is working on a theme of folktales around the world.
- They are comparing stories and kinds of folktales such as stories with
- tricksters, stories with magic, tall tales, stories with helpful characters.
- Each region seems to have stories which fall into each category of folk
- literature. After a general study of kinds of folktales, each student now is
- trying to gather stories from a specific region. They went to the local
- library to gather stories. One student who has chosen Australia (she became
- interested because of our contacts thru K-12 NET) could not find any folktales
- from Australia in the library. Such inadequacies!! So we are asking if you
- could help gather several folktales. Do you have a trickster, like Anansi the
- Spider in African tales or Coyote in Native American tales? Do you have tall
- tales? We did find a book of tales from New Zealand: "Land of the Long White
- Cloud" by Kiri Te Kanawa which another student is enjoying.
-
- Thanks for your help.
