- Dear James Bannan:
- Environmental Watch
-
- Thank you for your letter. We enjoyed hearing about Spring. We went for a walk
- around our block to see what we could see.
-
- Location: Spokane, Washington 47'39" N. and 117' 25" W
-
- Weather: We have had a rainy month so far. We noticed puddles and full storm
- drains everywhere. For several days it has been foggy and cloudy. On Wednesday
- we woke up to find 3 inches of snow everywhere. Luckily we didn't have school
- so we could play in it all day. (Veteran's Day holiday) Mary says the
- temperature is between 33- 37 F.
-
- Plants: We saw orange, red and maroon berries on bushes. We saw green grass
- which was brown last time. There were even dandelions and a few daisies still
- blooming.
-
- Birds: We found six puffed up birds. We talked about how birds puff up their
- feathers to keep warm. It helps make air pockets in their feathers to help
- keep warm.
-
- Minibeasts: We didn't see any insects.
-
- Daylight: We went walking at 2 p.m. The street lights were on. It wasn't dark
- yet but Leslie said that it is dark when her dad comes home. (sunrise is at 7
- am and sunset is at 4:15 p.m.). Because it was foggy it seemed sort of dark
- all day.
-
- Bye, Mary, Leslie, Katie, Will, Nick, Evan, Jonathan, Adrienne, Roslyn,
- Daniel, Elizabeth and Sammy
